MAXWELL AFB, Ala. Civil Air Patrol has entered into a corporate partnership agreement with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the world leader in aviation tires.
While terms of the agreement were undisclosed, Goodyears support of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) will include providing Goodyear Flight Custom III aviation tires for use by CAPs corporate aircraft fleet. In return, Goodyear will receive the right to use the CAP name and corporate supporter mark in the companys advertising, marketing and promotional programs during the year.
Civil Air Patrol was born out of the work of patriotic volunteers who helped defend our homeland from Nazi submarine attacks during World War II. Today, CAP volunteers are being asked again to help with homeland security missions to keep our citizens secure, said Maj. Gen. Richard Bowling, CAP national commander.
And like CAP, Goodyear, too, has been doing its part, Bowling said. The company not only provides safe products for the general aviation industry but also plays an important role in its work with the U.S. Department of Defense.
CAPs corporate aircraft fleet consists of 550 single-piston aircraft the largest fleet of its kind in the world. CAP aircraft, piloted by the organizations volunteer members, are used in homeland security, search and rescue, disaster relief and humanitarian missions throughout the nation.
Its only natural that a U.S.-based company would support the Civil Air Patrol, said Alex Dumm, Goodyear general manager for global aviation tires. In fact, Goodyear is proud that its American-made technologically advanced aviation tires are flying high with Civil Air Patrol on an expanded role in helping keep America safe.
As the safety of our members is a top priority, we are proud to have Goodyear as a partner in performing missions for America and look forward to a long relationship, said Al Allenback, CAP executive director.
Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit organization with some 62,000 members nationwide and is the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. CAP performs 95% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited last year by the AFRCC with saving more than 140 lives. CAP volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Members take a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the almost 27,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for more than 60 years.
