SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
CAP’s School Enrichment Program (SEP) offers public, private, parochial and home schools a ready-to-use, structured program that provides a positive leadership experience for students. Students in grades 6-12 who enroll in the program are called "cadets." Cadets are well versed in aviation and space, fundamental leadership theory and application, physical fitness, citizenship, safety, and other training activities that are challenging, fun and the envy of their peers. The bottom line is that through CAP, we can offer America’s youth a hope for a successful future … and show them how to achieve their goals and aspirations.
The SEP is designed to provide CAP “squadrons” in America's classrooms for any schools wanting to incorporate CAP's full cadet and aerospace programs in their educational design. The program can be implemented as either an in-school, elective course program or an after-school, enrichment program. At this time, there are over 70 SEP squadrons throughout our country listed as Group 800 Squadrons. There are over 2,000 cadets actively involved in the SEP activities which are offered at the school. There are also supplemental activities and encampments that further the cadets’ opportunities to experience a myriad of future leadership or aerospace career choices.
Another aspect of the SEP is to recruit and train teacher members, called Aerospace Education Members (AEMs), to actively promote learning using CAP's aerospace education materials and national standards-based lesson plans. These materials and lesson plans supplement the teachers' core curriculum. There are over 1,500 AEMs reaching over 45,000 youth using CAP's aerospace materials in the classrooms.
A new component of the SEP, wherein the teacher members (AEMs) play a major part, is the Junior Cadet Program for grades kindergarten through five. This pilot program is being field-tested in 20 schools across the nation during the 2007-'08 school year, impacting up to 7,000 Jr Cadets.
