CAP Inspector General Senior Level Training Course

Description: This intensive 2-day course fulfills the academic portion of the IG Specialty Track Senior rating requirements. It is mandatory for all group-level IGs and is encouraged for all wing and region IGs that have not yet attended the biennial IG College, as well as for all wing and region commanders, vice commanders and legal officers. The course covers the handling of complaints using the 10-step complaint resolution process and assessments, including Wing Compliance Inspections and the Subordinate Unit Inspection Program. This course consists of lecture and scenario based training.

2008 PAO Academy featuring CNN's Miles O'Brien

Description: Sessions will focus on the theme, "Public Affairs Essentials: Think Nationally, Act Locally," in providing attendees with training specifically designed to meet the needs of today's PAOs. Areas of emphasis will include media relations, Web site development, community relations, newsletters, planning and much more. The sessions will be complemented by networking opportunities and the presentation of CAP Balsem awards for professional excellence in a variety of categories.
Special Keynote Speaker: CNN's Miles O'Brien will provide an inside view on how to secure national media coverage. In addition to CAP’s search for Steve Fossett, other notable crash investigations O’Brien has covered during his career include the accident that took the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. O'Brien is CNN's chief technology and environment correspondent, reporting extensively on NASA and space exploration as well as civil aviation issues. He contributed to CNN's Peabody-award winning coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath with live reports from the U.S. Gulf Coast. He also has anchored various newscasts for CNN and Headline News, including Live From and, most recently, American Morning.

Training Leaders of Cadets

Length: 2 days (Tuesday: 10:00 – 5:00; Wednesday: 8:00 – 3:00)

Description: This 2-day course helps adults improve their ability to lead cadets and manage cadet programs at the squadron level. Topics include indirect leadership, working with parents, planning squadron meetings, and more. Most of all, TLC is a great opportunity to share success stories, so both new and experienced seniors are welcome. Students are requested to complete a few short on-line modules, available at www.cap.gov/tlc, before arrival. Sorry, this course is open only to seniors — no cadets allowed.
Note: We'll offer this course if at least 8 students register. Please consider it tentative at this time, but all registrants will receive word either way by June 16th.

Cessna G-1000 Ground School
Attendees: 80 (2 classes each day: 40 total students in each)
Length: 2 days – 4 hours each day (Tuesday – Wednesday)

Note: The G-1000 Ground School is being held 4 hours each day for two days at Cessna's request. Cessna's training department feels the material is very detailed and would be better retained by our members if the class is conducted this way. For those members who do not want to go sightseeing on their "off" class period, NHQ will offer an Operations Officer training class.
Description: Cessna instructors will provide the ground training portion of the Cessna FITS Accepted Training Program for the Cessna/Garmin G1000 Integrated Cockpit System.
The training will include:
1. A discussion of the components that make up the G1000 Integrated Cockpit System.
2. An overview of the flight instruments as displayed on the Primary Flight Display.
3. An overview of the additional information available on the Multi Function Display.
4. Practical techniques and principles for entering data into and navigating your way through the
G1000 system.
5. An introduction to the GFC700 Flight Director / Auto Pilot.
6. An introduction to WAAS and its application to GPS approaches.
7. A discussion of specific G1000 component failures and how they affect the operation of the system.
Participants who successfully complete the two day training will receive a Cessna certificate and credit for the ground school portion of the G-1000 checkout.

International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team Evolution And Management (TEAM) Course

Description: This course is designed for anyone in a team leadership position or who aspires to contribute to the organization or continued development of a crisis support, CISM, or peer support team. The program is essential to the development and maintenance of these programs. It will explore: leadership and management strategies; team development activities; team evolution considerations; preventative maintenance; learning from the past; and how to help teams remain healthy.

Incident Command System 300 Level Course – Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents
Attendees: 30
Length: Two days, 12 contact hour days (Tuesday and Wednesday; students must participate fully on both days and attend all sessions to successfully complete the course)
Fee: $40
Description: This course is primarily for mid-level emergency management personnel including those serving on the incident command staff, section chiefs, strike team leaders, task force leaders, unit leaders, division/group supervisors, branch directors, and multi-agency coordination system/emergency operations center staff. Personnel desiring enrolling in this course must complete IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 prior to the start of the course. Students participating in this course will receive training in the following areas:
1. ICS Fundamentals Review: Explain ICS staffing fundamentals and organization, including reporting and working relationships, information flow, and transfer of command. Match responsibility statements to each ICS organizational element.
2. Unified Command: Define and identify the primary features of unified command. Describe the unified command organization and functions in a multi-jurisdictional or multi-agency incident. Demonstrate roles and reporting relationships under a unified command in single and multi-jurisdictional incidents.
3. Incident Management Operations: Describe methods and tools used to assess incident/event complexity. Describe the five steps in transferring and assuming incident command. Identify the key principles of incident management operations. Describe the process for developing incident objectives, strategies, and tactics.
4. Resource Management: Identify and describe four basic principles of resource management. Identify the basic steps involved in managing incident resources. Demonstrate proper use of ICS forms.
5. Planning Process: Identify the importance of and explain the differences between planning for incidents or events. Discuss major planning steps, including logistical concerns, cost-benefit analysis, situational understanding, plan development, implementation, and evaluation.
6. Demobilization, Transfer of Command and Incident Closeout.

CAP Property Management

Description: This class will offer a detailed introduction to the new Inventory Management System (IMS), the e-Services application that will consolidate CATS and CEMS. Modules for property management including equipment, aircraft, vehicles, communications and real property will be covered in depth. This course is highly recommended for all those responsible for issuing, assigning, and transferring CAP property items, especially supply and communications officers.

Aerospace Education Workshop for Senior Members

Description: Come and spend a high-flying day participating in some unique educational and fun hands-on aerospace activities that can be shared with your senior members and cadets. This workshop involves aerospace programs that can be used with your youngest cadet to your oldest senior member. Included in this workshop will be a demonstration of NASA's Smart Skies, an explanation of the Aerospace Excellence Award Program (AEX), and suggestions for implementation of the Fly-a-Teacher program. Your attendance at this workshop will allow you to receive an AEX Award participant certificate. All materials will be provided for you.
NOTE: Sr Members will participate in Wednesday’s session with Aerospace Education Members (teacher members) who teach grades K-12. (AEMs will also participate in a Tuesday session wherein they will be provided the Fly-a-Teacher curriculum and airplane flight.)

Aerospace Education Workshop for Teachers

Description: Learn how to teach ordinary subjects in an extraordinary way! Come and spend a high-flying day participating in some unique educational and fun hands-on aerospace activities that can be shared with your students. This workshop includes national standards-based curriculum that can be used with any grade level or subject. Included in this workshop will be: a demonstration of NASA's Smart Skies, an entertaining and challenging math tool for your students; information on how to participate in the free Aerospace Excellence Award Program (AEX); and an all-day Fly-a-Teacher experience at a local airport. Your attendance at this workshop will allow you to receive an AEX Award participant certificate and a Fly-a-Teacher certificate. Attendance in this workshop can lead to continuing education units (CEUs) or graduate credit. All materials will be provided for you.
NOTE: Teachers will be off-site at an airport on Tuesday taking their flights. On Wednesday, they will join CAP regular members (called Sr Members) to participate in AE activity program.
