2008 CIVIL AIR PATROL PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER ACADEMY featuring CNN's Miles O'Brien
Keynote Speaker: CNN's Miles O'Brien will provide an inside view on how to secure national media coverage. In addition to CAP’s search for Steve Fossett, other notable crash investigations O’Brien has covered during his career include the accident that took the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. O'Brien is CNN's chief technology and environment correspondent, reporting extensively on NASA and space exploration as well as civil aviation issues. He contributed to CNN's Peabody-award winning coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath with live reports from the U.S. Gulf Coast. He also has anchored various newscasts for CNN and Headline News, including Live From and, most recently, American Morning.
Course Description: Sessions will focus on the theme, "Public Affairs Essentials: Think Nationally, Act Locally," in providing attendees with training specifically designed to meet the needs of today's PAOs. Areas of emphasis will include media relations, Web site development, community relations, newsletters, planning and much more. The sessions will be complemented by networking opportunities and the presentation of CAP Balsem awards for professional excellence in a variety of categories.
